LabKey Hosted: Frequently Asked Questions

How does setup and configuration work?

You'll work one-on-one with a senior member of LabKey's technical staff, which will include a call to discuss your workflows, data and goals. We'll use that information to build a LabKey Hosted project that meets your needs.

What about security?

LabKey Hosted employs the latest security standards. All data is transmitted to and from a secure data center via HTTPS encryption, all users must log in to view sensitive data, and LabKey Server's enterprise auditing features are fully enabled. User accounts can be configured with a variety of access levels, including read-only, read/write, and administrative permissions. Your data will only be seen by people you choose.

Is my data "locked up" in LabKey Hosted? Can I get it back after I upload it?

All data in LabKey Hosted can be exported to text, TSV, or Excel files at any time. Data can also be accessed directly via open source libraries for SAS, JavaScript, and Java. You own your data, and can move it into or out of LabKey Hosted at any time. You can also download the search results in their native formats, including pepXML, protXML, and more.

Is it really free? Why are you doing this?

Yes, it's really free. We're doing this because we need to learn from you, the scientific community, so we can improve our product and service. We value your opinions, and we think free service is a fair trade.

What kind of feedback will I be asked to provide?

Beta users may be asked to participate in brief calls to discuss the service. We may occasionally send brief, optional surveys to help with product direction. We also welcome feedback and questions via the support boards and email.

What are the resource limits?

Free projects are limited to 5 GB of storage and 50 GB of data transmission per month. That's enough to store and analyze around 10,000 Luminex runs, for example. These limits are as high as possible while still allowing us to offer free service to beta users.

What happens if I exceed the resource limits?

Your services will continue to run, but you'll get a call from us. At that time, you can reduce your usage, switch to paid monthly service with higher limits, or install your own copy of LabKey Server at your institution. We'll even help you move your data, if that's your choice.

Can I write you into a grant to fund new features or higher resource limits?

Absolutely. In fact, we offer special deals to groups who include LabKey in their grants. Contact info@labkey.com for details.

What is the SLA (Service Level Agreement) for LabKey Hosted?

LabKey is unable to offer a service level agreement while LabKey Hosted is in beta. While we will notify you of all planned outages, unexpected interruptions could arise. If you require a higher level of service, contact info@labkey.com for details on our enterprise services.

My question isn't answered here!
